SPORTS--CONWAY — After dropping a pair of games
on Saturday to league-leading North Country,
the MWV Senior Babe Ruth baseball
team returned to the diamond on Sunday at
Bob Burns Field and split a doubleheader
with Littleton. The visitors took the opener
2-1 despite strong pitching by Vinnie Patch,
but the MWV boys claimed the nightcap 7-6
in extra innings.
MWV is coached by Bob Burns, Chris
Kevlin, Paul Getchell and Steve Larson. The
team is sponsored this summer by Abbott’s
Ice Cream and Sound Resort.
MWV made the most of just seven hits,
including three by Nick Kevlin and a pair
by Jeff Sires while Matt Paisley and Mike
Larson added singles.
The local nine had to come from behind to
tie the gave at fi ve in the bottom of the seventh
on Kevlin’s second double of the day
along with a pair of passed balls.
An unearned run in the top of the eighth
put Littleton in front once again, but MWV
showed its comeback spirit. Walks to Dave
Ingram, Ben Brownell an Larson loaded the
bases. Kevlin tied the game with an RBI
single and Sires won it with a two-out walkoff
blast to deep right-center.
Ingram went the distance on the mound
for MWV in game two, striking out six, walk-
